The festive season can pose many challenges for people affected by cancer. Feelings of loneliness, isolation and sadness can be even more challenging at a time traditionally full of joy and celebrations.
Kashka Bochynska, Manager of Direct Cancer Support, Cancer Council NSW wants people to know that they will be available right across the break to support families and their loved ones affected by all types of cancer, when they need it most.
She says 13 11 20 is the first port of call for all of Cancer Council’s Information and Support services.

This line is operated by specially trained healthcare professionals who are available to answer questions about cancer, offer emotional support, and refer to practical support like Transport to Treatment, accommodation or financial assistance, and emotional support services including counselling, telephone support groups and other supportive care programs.
The 13 11 20 Information and Support service is for anyone impacted by cancer – including cancer patients, people living with cancer, their families, carers and friends, teachers, students, and healthcare professionals.
You can find our more about the Christmas/New Year schedule for the Information and Support Service via: www.cancercouncil.com.au/get-support.
Online support, 24/7
Kashka Bochynska says she wants affected people to know that there’s also support available for them through the Cancer Council online community.
Those impacted by cancer can visit the online community at onlinecommunity.cancercouncil.com.au for round the clock support, seven days a week.

She says the Cancer Council online community is a safe space for cancer patients, their carers and loved ones to speak and connect with other members of the community.
‘At this time, we hear from people who may be worried about their cancer diagnosis impacting the celebrations for them and their loved ones or concerns around how they may experience delays in appointments, treatments and results over this period,’ said Ms Bochynska.
‘This festive season, Cancer Council is here for everyone affected by cancer and their loved ones. If you need to talk, call Cancer Council on 13 11 20, visit our online community or visit cancercouncil.com.au/get-support.’
