How’s your month without alcohol going? The concept of Dry July is simple. Participants register online, commit to staying alcohol-free throughout July, and ask family, friends and colleagues to sponsor their efforts.
Funds raised are distributed to cancer organisations and hospitals across Australia, helping finance practical support services that make a significant difference during treatment and recovery. If you haven’t started yet, it’s not too late to get involved.
Dry July 2026 continues one of Australia’s most recognised health and fundraising campaigns. Since being started by three mates in 2008, the initiative has grown from a small community challenge into a nationwide movement that’s raised more than $100 million to improve the comfort, care and wellbeing of cancer patients and their families.
This year Dry July is partnering with more than 40 beneficiary organisations nationwide. Participants can choose to raise money for a local hospital or cancer charity, or support the Dry July Foundation’s national grant program.

These grants fund projects such as transport services to treatment appointments, accommodation close to hospitals for regional patients, specialist cancer nurses, wellness programs, therapy services and family support initiatives.
Getting off the grog
Beyond fundraising, Dry July encourages Australians to reflect on their drinking habits and experience the health benefits of taking a break from alcohol. Many participants report improved sleep, increased energy levels, better concentration, weight management and financial savings over the month.
While these benefits vary between individuals, the campaign promotes moderation and healthier lifestyle choices rather than long-term abstinence for everyone. Organisers advise people who are dependent on alcohol to consult their GP before participating, as suddenly stopping alcohol can be unsafe for some individuals.
Dry July has also become a popular workplace initiative, with businesses, sporting clubs and community groups forming teams to encourage participation and friendly competition. Team fundraising activities, workplace challenges and social events provide opportunities for colleagues to support one another while contributing to an important cause.

Personal and community impact
As July 2026 unfolds, thousands of Australians are once again demonstrating how a simple personal challenge can create meaningful community impact.
Whether motivated by improving their own health, supporting a loved one with cancer or contributing to better patient care, participants are helping fund services that provide comfort and dignity during some of life’s most difficult moments.
By combining healthier lifestyle choices with charitable giving, Dry July continues to show how collective action can make a lasting difference for people affected by cancer across Australia.
