Brunswick Heads local Edward ‘Ed’ Mason is preparing for an extraordinary challenge, to raise vital funds for Make-A-Wish Australia, helping children living with critical illness.
Ed is about to attempt a 26 km open water swim across New Zealand’s glacial Lake Tekapo, a crossing so extreme that only two swimmers have successfully completed it before.
Swimming for hours through 15 degree alpine water, Ed will face intense cold, exhaustion, and unpredictable conditions. This is not just a test of physical endurance, but of deep mental strength and determination.
If successful, he will cement his place in history as the third person globally to complete this formidable swim.

Making wishes come true
Ed Mason is taking on Lake Tekapo to raise vital funds for Make-A-Wish Australia, helping grant life-changing wishes for children living with critical illness.
Every kilometre swum supports families at their toughest moments, offering hope, strength and joy when it’s needed most.
From the simple to the seemingly impossible, wishes complement medical treatment, working to calm, distract and empower sick children when they need it most.
When a wish is realised, a child discovers that despite their situation, anything is possible.
You can donate to Ed’s fundraising page here, with all donations $2 and over being tax deductible.
