The mission of the Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (MHERV), coming to Ballina this month, is ‘saving local lives’. This is the fourth year the van has visited Ballina, proudly hosted by the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond.
Operated by the Rotary Club of Warners Bay in collaboration with Rotary clubs across NSW, MHERV has been on the road for over six years. The van travels to regional and rural towns, providing free health checks to people who might not have seen a doctor in years.
These quick screenings measure blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels; silent health risks that often show no symptoms until it’s too late, and a heart attack or stroke occurs.

Everyone welcome
While the MHERV program originally focused on men, it’s now open to everyone, with men and women in the community encouraged to take part in these quick and important health checks.
The medical screenings are conducted in a relaxed, informal setting by a registered nurse inside the van.
Each consultation takes just 10 minutes, with results available immediately, and advice provided if follow-up with a GP is recommended.
No appointment is needed, just drop in when it’s convenient.
MHERV screenings have already saved countless lives and improved health outcomes for many men and women across NSW. Just ten minutes of your time could save your life or the life of someone you love.
You can find MHERV on Wednesday 17 September and Thursday 18 September, from 9:30am–4:15pm , at Fawcett Park (Richmond River end of Moon Street), Ballina.
