The Pankind charity, which assists Australians suffering from pancreatic cancer, has released a statement honouring Rob Hirst, who recently lost his life to this disease, which is the nation’s toughest common cancer, with very little improvement in survival rates despite decades of research.
One of Mr Hirst’s final requests was that those wishing to give something in his memory help to change this situation by supporting Pankind: Pancreatic Cancer Australia.
The charity has responded by saying:
‘Like so many Australians, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Australian rock icon Rob Hirst. His talent, creativity and influence shaped generations and enriched the lives of many, playing a defining role in Australia’s music scene. We celebrate his recent recognition as a Member of the Order of Australia “for significant service to the performing arts through music”.

Courage
‘Rob’s courage in sharing his pancreatic cancer journey has helped highlight the urgent need for greater awareness, research, and support for everyone affected.
‘At Pankind, we have been deeply moved by the outpouring of donations made in Rob’s memory. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed and helped raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.
‘Through these acts of kindness, Rob’s legacy lives on, not only through his music, but through the hope his fans have created for a different future for those impacted by this disease.
‘We send out deepest condolences to Rob’s wife, Lesley, his family, loved ones and the many fans who adored him.
