The Birth Wellness Festival, now in its fourth year, was recently held at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds, drawing together women, families, midwives, and health practitioners who specialise in pregnancy and birth to honour the journey of birth and parenthood.
A village-like atmosphere was created where people could connect, learn, and be inspired — showing that birth isn’t just a medical event, but a profound life experience that shapes families and communities alike.
Workshops and talks covered preconception and pregnancy through to birth and postpartum care. while attendees enjoyed market stalls, nourishing food, and children’s activities.

Festival director Sali McIntyre, said the highlight was the strong sense of community spirit. ‘Everyone came with an open heart, eager to share knowledge and raise awareness about birth,’ she said.
‘The way we birth matters — not just for mothers and babies, but for the whole of society.’
Community response was very positive, with participants praising the festival for creating a safe, welcoming space where birth could be discussed openly and celebrated.
The event was community-funded, with proceeds from ticket sales and raffles supporting future initiatives.
Organisers said the response shows a clear need for more gatherings that bring families and practitioners together in celebration and education.
