During the lockdowns, back pain became a bigger problem as people spent more hours sedentary, working from home and on their couches.
80% of the Australian population will suffer spinal pain at some time. Too often, sufferers concentrate on relieving that pain straight away, rather than looking for the cause. Back pain is often a consequence of a poorly functioning spine. Luckily, many spinal problems are avoidable, with the right approach.
World Surfing League Sports Practitioner and Lennox Head based chiropractor, Jason Gilbert, has recently released a definitive instructional manual on how to care for and maintain the body’s central support structure and rectify problems when they occur.
Mr Gilbert’s new book is called The Secret to a Healthy Spine: A User’s Guide to Overcoming Back Pain.
The author has been a sports practitioner with the World Surfing League for 20 years, and says over 100,000 people all around the world have benefited from this knowledge. He specialises in the restoration of biomechanical function, both for athletes and those who have lost it due to inadequate postural problems.
His clients have included patients in sport, busy mums at home looking after young kids, corporates seated at a computer day in, day out, to people doing trades and active work and suffering from spinal pain.

Identifying the cause
‘What all of this experience served for was to help me realise the importance of actually identifying the cause of somebody’s pain instead of simply focusing on the resultant symptom of the underlying problem,’ said Jason Gilbert.
‘Commonly overlooked factors such as diet, toxins, dehydration, stress and emotional problems are also detailed to make this a truly complete manual on correcting back pain,’ he said.
Because back pain is insidious, by the time most of us think about how important spinal health is, we’ve already entered into a painful state of dysfunction, or have irreversible degenerative changes.
Jason Gilbert’s book is designed to empower readers with the knowledge necessary to recognize and eliminate the factors that worsen spinal health.
