Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members are invited to come together for a free cancer screening and community health event at Tweed Heads, focused on health, wellbeing, connection and staying strong for family and community.
The event will be held at Tweed Heads South Hall, 18 Heffron Street, Tweed Heads South, on Wednesday 11 November 2026 from 10am to 2pm.
The day has been designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to learn more about cancer prevention, early detection and healthy living in a welcoming and culturally safe environment.

Community members will be able to yarn with local health professionals, learn about cancer screening services available in the area, connect with local support services, and get practical tips on staying healthy and strong.
There will also be a healthy lunch, wellbeing activities, fun games, prizes and giveaways, providing plenty of opportunities to connect with family, friends and community.
Informed choices
Northern NSW Local Health District Director Cancer Services and Innovation Stephen Manley said the event was about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make informed choices about their health.
‘Looking after your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, your family and your community,’ Mr Manley said.
‘Cancer screening can find some cancers early, often before symptoms appear, when treatment is more likely to be successful. By learning more about screening and prevention, people can take positive steps to stay healthy and strong.’
Mr Manley said the event would offer a chance to learn, connect and have conversations in a relaxed and supportive setting.

‘Whether you’re looking for information, want to ask questions about cancer screening, or simply want to connect with local health services, we encourage everyone to come along,’ he said.
‘We want this to be a welcoming day where people can yarn, share a healthy meal, take part in activities and learn about services that can support them and their families.’
The free event will provide information about:
- Local cancer screening services.
- Cancer prevention and reducing cancer risk.
- Recognising the signs and symptoms of different cancers.
- Healthy lifestyle choices and wellbeing.
- :ocal health and support services.
Community members of all ages are welcome to attend.
Bring the family, have a yarn, connect with local services and learn more about staying healthy for yourself and those around you.
